10 years we have been guests at Camping De Bouwte. This 22nd edition of our regional meeting was also the last time for us in Midwolda and it was a dignified farewell. We had worked hard to make it a great party, but that it would turn out to be such a great party, was beyond our wildest dreams!!!
Our team work so well together that planning and setting up everything goes without any problems. Friday evening everything was ready and we could relax in the cantine with wonderful music from Emmy & the Bluegrass Pals and a cold beer, and catch up with friends and aquaintances. Due to rain they couldn't play outdoors, but after hanging a microphone we could enjoy the band and teach our young ones the meaning of "roots music". The older generation really enjoyed this music and went off to bed nice and relaxed because tomorrow promissed to be busy.
Saturday always begins with a hot coffee, quickly made bread rolls and excited smiles. Will they come? Sure they came. Saturday afternoon was busiest we've ever had. Fantastic! Also great to see so many of our colleauges from team Overijssel. Due to a wedding at Imca Marina's and a cycling race in Midwolda, the buggy's couldn't start till later in the afternoon and the puzzzel-tour was delayed for a couple of hours. That meant it was busier than normal and the tram driven by Albert (thank you for giving up your free time) rode back and forth pretty full. After a few rain bursts the course had nice muddy holes, and that meant much fun for the public. Now and then a buggy would get stuck and the tractor or another buggy had to pull them out. Many visitors came for just the day but many more stayed for the entertainment of the evening. Even before dinner time there were people walking around in their outfits for the "Wrong"Disco Party. The anticipation had begun!
DJ Harry and his Karaoke Disco Drive-in Show turned out to be a bullseye. Beautifully dressed people from very young to grandparents in glitter and hippie clothes and everything "wrong" as it could be. The atmosphere was fantastic from the start until well after the final whistle. Especially the pictures tell a tale of exuberant celebration. Everyone thank you so much for the time and attention you gave to your costumes, we killed ourselves laughing. It was very difficult to choose a "King & Queen", but the rightful winners Richard & Sylvia received their crowns formally presented after a "Rivers of Babylon" dance contest. Boney M would be very proud of you…..
Sunday morning and everything is stiff or hurting...haha...first that coffee and a paracetamol and let's forget those bread rolls for the moment. Luckily our colleauges from Drenthe are here to help in the Club Shop. Thank you so much. And again they came, the beetles, buggys, vans etc. etc. The weather is great, not too warm and a now and again sunshine. The overall atmosphere is exuberant and fun. The children enjoyed themselves just fine in the inflatable castle, coloring, face painting and paint centrifuge. The hamburgers tasted just fine. Grunnie2 drove fast laps and the field is full of air-cooled cars.
Around 16:30 pm it was yet again time for the prizes and official goodbye to Jan and Rommy. Difficult, because mutual respect is high and we will certainly miss each other. First Aike takes the floor and presents Jan & Rommy with a plate as rememberance. Then Jan gives a heartwarming speach of how we grew together and how it is now time to move on. A small shame that not everyone turns up for the trophy's and we are left with a few for next year. All the children recieve a present for their colouring, and they were many!! Then it's time to pack up and enjoy a meal in the cantine, where we talk over the weekend and start looking forward to next year in Noordbroek.
In our info-booklet click here, you can read more (dutch only) about the move to Noordbroek where we hope to welcome all our loyal visitors and club members at Boerderij Café Mausel in 2010. (also see under “links”)
Lastly thanks go to our fantastic sponsers, and THANKS to YOU all our visitors, team KCN Groningen, Algemene Buggy Club and Camping De Bouwte. Thank you for the wonderful memories.
And luckily we have the (hundreds of) photo's.....see i.e. these sites:
